Barbara Lukanc graduated as a doctor of veterinary medicine from Veterinary Faculty, the University of Ljubljana in 1998. She has been part of the clinic’s team since 1999. From 2000 to 2007, Barbara continued with a multi-disciplinary PhD program in Biomedicine at the University of Ljubljana as a Young Researcher.
Under the mentorship of Prof. Janoš Butinar, she was focusing on research in the effects of haemorrhagic shock and anaesthesia on intestinal permeability in dogs and the effects of a nonsteroidal analgesic meloxicam on intestinal permeability in anaesthetized dogs. She obtained her MSc degree in 2003 and her PhD degree in 2007. During her MSc training, Barbara spent six weeks at the Intensive Care Unit of the University Medical Center in Ljubljana.
Dr. Lukanc is currently a lecturer for Veterinary Anaesthesiology and is involved in teaching in the framework of “Anaesthesiology, reanimation and intensive care” course at the Veterinary Faculty University of Ljubljana. She regularly attends meetings in Slovenia and abroad, especially those related to veterinary anaesthesiology. She has also authored several research and professional papers in the field of veterinary anaesthesiology.
