Kardiologija

The Cardiology Service of the Clinic for Surgery and Small Animals provides diagnostic and patient care services to animals with cardiovascular diseases, and consultation within the clinic and referring veterinarians in Slovenia and elsewhere. The Cardiology Service evaluates a variety of cardiopulmonary cases in different species (dogs, cats, large animals, exotics). These conditions include congenital cardiac malformations, acquired heart disease and pre-breeding screening for a variety of diseases in dogs and cats.

A typical cardiac work-up includes:

  • Clinical examination
  • Thoracic radiographs
  • Electrocardiogram
  • Indirect systolic blood pressure
  • Echocardiogram with Doppler evaluation

The results are also reported to local veterinarians for enhanced continuity of care and given to the owner as well. A Holter monitor screening for arrhythmias associated with different conditions is available. Image consultation: the Cardiology Service offers image review (radiographs, ECG, etc.) e-mailed to the service via our website. Pacemaker implantation is offered as one possible intervention.
