Žan Karničar graduated from the Veterinary Faculty, University of Ljubljana at the beginning of 2017. During his studies, he gained experience both at home as a student- technician at the Small Animal Clinic of the Veterinary Faculty and Klinika Loka d.o.o., as well as abroad (University Clinic Bern – Switzerland). Immediately after graduation, he started working as a veterinarian at Klinika Loka d.o.o., and in 2021 took on the management of the Veterinary Clinic of the Slovenian Armed Forces (SAF), where he is responsible for the healthcare of military working dogs and educates members of the SAF in the field of dog healthcare. As a national representative of Slovenia, he also participates in the NATO Expert Panel for standardization in the field of military working dogs (NATO MWD Expert Panel).
Since 2022, he has been working as an external collaborator at the Small Animal Clinic to ensure a 24-hour on-call service. He regularly undergoes further training both at home (rotations at the Small Animal Clinic, symposia, seminars…) and abroad (ESAVS, OKEAN, symposia…).
He is an active member of the Slovenian Small Animal Veterinary Association.
In his free time, he actively participates in rescue training and mountain rescue as a mountain rescue instructor and is also a licensed alpinist. As a mountain rescuer, he has also participated many times in the rescue of various animals.
